BERLIN FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
OPENING THE 9TH OF OCTOBER
From the 9th to the 20th of October 2013
Aufbau Haus, Kreuzberg, Berlin
The light and sound installation invites people into the night-time world of the Aufbau Haus courtyard. Projecting light on textile surfaces, choreographed with sounds, an inner landscape for the building is created as an immersive environment. The textiles are cut in rhythm reminiscent of musical notation, and suspended under the bridges to become three-dimensional shapes. The light and sound are composed in overlapping sequences that vary in intensity, speed, colour and density. The animation of light transfigures the perception of the strictly defined architecture. The sound sequences use the form of a canon to accentuate the length of the space. Sound travelling through the patio materialized by light is exposing the reading of a three-dimensional musical score.
The team consists of Sophie Valla, architect, Susheela Sankaram, light designer and Leonard Roussel, engineer specialized in spatial acoustics.Founders of the Sound Light ACT. With the support of Arup, Aufbau Haus en sponsors.
